Welcome to the very last giveaway for my #MarchMadness extravaganza! I know #MarchMadness is actually about basketball, but my team was out in the first round (thanks to Middle Tennessee State on March 18, and a score of 90-81, but who’s keeping track?), so I made it what I wanted it to be. (That’s another way of saying I co-opted #MarchMadness this year.)
I’m thrilled to offer a copy of “Roots and Sky,” by Christie Purifoy, to three lucky readers this week. Christie is an exquisite writer with a soft heart. That’s not to say she’s a pushover or a wimp. She is strong and she is wise, and she welcomes you with softness. Her words wrap themselves around you and carry you off to some place lovely.
This book is the story of life in one particular house. A house called Maplehurst. It’s also the story of a year in seasons. And it is the story of finding a way to breathe again. Read it slowly. Keep it by your bed, or in your purse, or on the kitchen counter. It’s a companion for your journey and a light to help you see where it is you are headed, after all. From the book:
“For so much of my life I have sought eternity by keeping my arms wrapped tightly around solid things. Permanent things. Things known and understood. Things sure to last. These are the things I believed had eternal significance. But this first spring at Maplehurst is showing me just how much is left out when we equate eternal significance with permanence.”
See what I mean? For your chance to win, follow the instructions on the Rafflecopter, below (be sure to actually click on the Rafflecopter for full instructions):

It’s my small offering to say thanks for hanging in there, you can do this, and we’re all in this together! Follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter to enter to win a copy of, “Roots and Sky.”

Would love to dig into this book, problem is I don’t have a copy yet, lol.
I believe the places that give me roots aren’t found in the places.
I could name so commenly the one house I grew up in or the one small town I struggled to live in my whole 18 yrs, wanting to run away to the big city i saw on tv…then off to college I did run with gladness and a little sadness, I thought was never there. And now 10 yrs later leaving the little red barn looking house in suburbia and making our way back to country life. If you would of told that 17yr old seeking soul that’s where she would be when she was 33 she probably would of burned with anger and ran a little harder. My Roots are not in the houses or places I’ve been. But in the people who ive loved and who have loved me in them.

My family and our home give me roots but that also helps me fly… By giving me a haven and safe place to land when the soaring is over for the time. But the places I have visited with friends, family or work have also added to my story.. and I am drawn to their stories as well.

I love your bookishness and you in general. I am so excited to see you in, like, a week!

Love that you’re exchanging basketballs for books. And this particular one sounds so lovely. I grew up in a home whose walls held deep significance, and it was difficult journey saying goodbye to that home. But we are so much richer when we take time to see the lessons lurking in houses and things and changing seasons.

I have always been a homebody. Growing up my family provided me with a safe, encouraging and peaceful place to grow deep roots- and as an HSP I really needed that. As I got older, those those deep roots gave me the courage to test my wings and have adventures of my own. Now, my husband is my biggest cheerleader, kindest critic, and safest person to share my heart with. He gives me the courage to try new things and the confidence that he will stick by me through it all.
And I would love to get this book! It’s already on my reading list ????

As a “younger” person I wouldn’t have said my family gave me roots. Now as a still young 40 something I see how many and significant those roots really are!

My friends give me roots. I don´t have a family so it´s my friends who give me safety and roots. 🙂

The people who give me roots are my family and my friends I’ve known since high school.

The people who help me fly are those individuals in my life who go above and beyond their comfort zone to create ventures outside of the safety of an expected job and those who travel or move to new locations without being afraid.
