I’m apologizing to you here in advance, because my Instagram feed is about to get obnoxious. And so is my Facebook timeline. Again. Dressember is baaaaaaaaackkkkk!!! I participated in 2013 and I’m doing it again this year.
I’m a fan of dresses. I’m a hater of human trafficking and sex slavery. Dressember is a movement that takes something I love and uses it to stomp out something I hate. Yay!
Here. See for yourself:
Cool, right? And also important. It was a no-brainer for me, so I signed myself up, and H has agreed to take a picture of me in my dress each day, because those are the rules. I can’t just say I’m going to wear a dress every day in December and have you take my word for it. You need proof! Because, you also get a chance to sponsor me, or go all-in and join my team! First, register to set up your personal page, then register as part of my team, helping to raise $1,000.
100% of the money you give will go to International Justice Mission or A21, to help combat human trafficking and end sexual slavery. We honestly cannot put up with slavery anymore, people. We just can’t. Not as people who have been rescued and set free. We can’t.
I know your “ask” inbox is overflowing right about now. I know it. I do. Mine is, too. Dressember happens to resonate with me. Like I said: I like dresses and I hate human trafficking and sex slavery. And maybe something about this is resonating with you, too? If you feel a tug or a smile or some little beginnings of agreement here, then let me tell you how you can participate.
First — and this is the most important one — you can make a donation. It doesn’t have to be big. My team goal is $1,000 and, with enough of us giving $5 or $10 or $25, we can reach that in no time flat. Click here to make your donation.
Second — and this might possibly be the most fun one — I need you to help me mix things up a bit, just like you did in 2013! I keep thinking of the Instagram feed, and how obnoxious it will look to have boring photos of me in a dress popping up every day — standing there with my hand on my hip and one foot slightly in front of the other, the way my mother-in-law taught me. I mean, it’s a good pose and all. But for 31 days? So, I thought I’d ask you for suggestions. What are some fun and slightly risky (not risqué) poses you’d like me strike for my photos? Be adventurous! Be creative! Be daring! Leave your suggestions in the comments, and I’ll do my best to make them happen.
Third — and this could be the best thing ever — participate by wearing a dress every day for the rest of December! The more the merrier! You can sign up right here! Please let me know if you do.
Fourth — follow me on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with the crazy fashion shenanigans! I’ll be posting a photo every day, and with your help, they should be…well…interesting.
OK. So, here we go. One month of dresses! And one step closer to the end of human trafficking and sex slavery — can I get an “Amen!”? And, while it might be fun and risky and even a bit adventurous, it won’t always be pretty. And, if you’re planning to join the fun, may I recommend fleece-lined leggings? You’ll thank me later. They tell me snow is in the forecast.
Peace! And thank you.
Missy
I wish i could do this Deidra. Living in the mountains at a camp, makes for very few dresses anymore. But i support you and this cause tremendously. How bout a pic climbing a ladder. Climbing to new heights to help end sex trafficking.
Deidra
I’ll definitely try! Thanks for your support, Missy!

What about a picture or two next to some of the neat sculptures in Lincoln. (I seem to remember there are some on the side walk.) What about one with your dog, cat and someone’s horse? What about one at the Fair Trade store (1,000 villages)? What about one at the Amtrak station, maybe when a train comes in? Maybe these would take too much work…
Deidra
Great ideas, Katie! I’ll do my best!

I love to see photos of you around Lincoln…your favorite coffee shop, lunch place, bookstore, your church, etc. And how about some with your Lincoln peeps? Michelle, Leila and others…???

Can you be any more beautiful: I love the pic of you with the blue phone. Yes, count me in!

Looking good my friend! I like the idea of helping people out of the horror of sex trafficing….such a bad word and what possesses people to do that just makes me cry!!! And pray! Will donate. looking forward to all your dressember photos. I’m not a dress person…only have a couple skirts and may just wear those on Sunday and maybe to a Christmas party even though it’s cold…will see..hugs for what you do in the name of Jesus!
