I’m not much of a planner. I didn’t realize our trip to the beach would end with a holiday weekend, and one extra day to ease in to the schedules and the routine and the to-dos.
We left the beach on Saturday, and it took awhile before I realized all the traffic headed in the opposite direction was holiday traffic and I breathed a sigh of relief that I would not have to sit in the bumper-to–bumper and inch-by-inch.
I am grateful for the unexpected easing in. The gentle transition back to real life. Finding myself here, on a holiday Monday morning with no plans, makes me believe God knows me better than I know myself.
“Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)
