There was this one day, back in the Spring, when I got in my Subaru and drove a few hours to Sioux City, Iowa. When I got there, I met up with my friends, Julie Hulstein and Amy Breitman. Julie is the founder and President of ViBella Jewelry, and Amy is their VP of Marketing and Partnership Development. When I arrived in Sioux City there was also a stylist present. And a photographer.
I would like to have a stylist in my life, every day, for every reason.
I’d been asked to bring my own clothes, so I grabbed what I had (which wasn’t much) and handed that small pile of clothes over to the stylist. She worked some magic and put together a few outfits for me to wear in front of the camera for a little photo shoot in an empty storefront on one of the main drags in this small, midwestern town.
It was fun, and I had some behind-the-scenes photos which I have, apparently, lost.
ViBella is a company that helps women in Haiti, Mexico, and the United States by giving them jobs. The women upcycle materials to create jewelry and other accessories, and ViBella invests all profits from the jewelry sales back into the communities of the women who make the jewelry.
On top of that, every year we’ve held JumpingTandem: The Retreat, ViBella has been a sponsor. That means they’ve invested directly into the JumpingTandem community—and that includes you. This year, they were our major sponsor for the retreat. In addition, ViBella has designed two custom pieces of jewelry to celebrate the launch of my book, Every Little Thing: Making a World of Difference Right Where You Are. These custom pieces—Alexandra and Kyla—will be available through ViBella later this year.
At the end of the photo shoot, Julie handed me a few pieces of jewelry to give away to members of this little community. I’m giving away one Eva necklace (that’s the one I’m wearing in the catalog pic), and one Sienna necklace with a pair of matching earrings!
